DK2 users, the go to for SL use is the "Ctrl Alt Studio" viewer

As quite a few of you are getting your DK2 and setting things up for SL ventures, the word is that the DK2 is not recognized by the default SL viewer.
You will want to head back to the original Oculus Rift enabled viewer, which is the Ctrl Alt Studio.

At this time, Mac and Linux are not supported by this viewer.

Just a reminder to all, remember this is all in beta, the kits and the viewers. The objective is to develop and work these kinks out! Yes have fun, but if you are just an observer, hitching a ride on these DK2 kits, please remember to keep a tight lip when it comes to the bumps in the road. Thanks! ;)

The BATTLE FOR THE NET

You don't want your internet to slow down!
The internet was invented and given to the world wide community.
It was given so we can all be connected....
to have information at our fingertips.
It was NOT handed over to make a handful of people rich.
It was not handed over to be as selective as your TV channel programming.

New Destination Category in SL!

An Oculus Ready/Optimized category is now part of the destination guide within Second Life!
This is awesome! & it will help give you explorers more options of the wonderful places that are built especially for the Oculus. Or those that have at least been determined to be compatible with the Oculus experience!

Now, I will give you a quick guide on how to get to this tab, so to utilize this great new option for yourself!

1.) You will need to click the magnifier icon button within your viewer's UI. It is located to the left of SL default viewer and on the bottom of the CtrlAltStudio & Firestorm viewers.
2.) An internal browser will pop open. Click the first tab for "Websearch". You will then see this within the search window, click tab for Destination Guide.

3.) It will snap to this, which is not much different then before, but now you have the option, "View All Destinations" to your right, click this.

4.) Then you will find the "Oculus Ready" option located on the drop down menu as indicated here on the left. Click it and your internal browser will arrive on the destinations page for all things rift ready! :)

Simple as that!

I will have more suggestions for your exploration in the coming week!
Until then Enjoy!

Gamepad + Speech Recognition = an easier O-SL experience!

Just a quick post to link you to Loki's new video that shows how he went about mapping a gamepad with Second life and the Oculus. He also enabled speech recognition, which would make your O-SL experience nearly keyboard free, more fluid and easier.
To Loki's video on Telly
Enjoy! :)

Skye Neist Point

Skye Neist Point is a beautifully serene group of islands by Alex Bader. There are a collection of castles and other artful buildings, which Alex has built and picturesquely placed around the area. Very low lag to none.
The choice of landscape, from plantings, trees and forest paths, make walking through this area extremely pleasant. I had such a delightful time perusing around the islands terrain, I didn't even bother venturing within the buildings. I will leave the buildings for you explorers to discover for yourselves.

There are two islands grouped together.

Then there was a third beach island by itself. I am not sure if this one is always open to the public. I initially had a problem getting there, it might have been offline, filled with people or perhaps the entry was off at the time. It is worth the attempt to get there though.

The entry point is very close to this wooden bridge, though you have to make your way through a little forest first.  Sunset is a great setting for this location. I cannot recall if I set it or if there was an auto request.

Mushrooms in a circle... fairy circle... there were no fairies around on this particular day though.

Alex arranged wonderful sky walks, which I was in anticipation to get to.
Skye Neist Point3

The view up here is wonderful. I imagine with the rift, it will be amazingly fantastic.
Skye Neist Point4

I dropped my settings to night, so to better capture the beauty of the little castle behind me.

There is a great deal of beach terrain here as well, both on the two islands together and on the one located separately by itself. This old boat and old wood staircase is on the main pair of islands.

Below is when I finally made it to the island located by itself. I am guessing it is a homestead, it has a nice mountain to climb through and at least one hidden waterfall I had discovered.

There is also another great sky walk on the single island, giving a breathtaking view.

Click here to visit the Skye Neist Point and the proceed to click "Visit this Location" and confirm "Launch Application." You will need to be logged into Second Life to receive the place profile and thus take the teleport located on it.

Skye Neist is a perfectly safe location, now I don't mean you can't fall off a walkway and tumble through the air. I do mean you don't have to worry about dying. No health meter to keep watch over, just watch your steps going up the steep inclines here.

Till next time be well and happy travels!
